Academic Buracracy
Ok, sorry for that messed up title but it was the only one I could think that really describes what I want to talk about. So, I have about two weeks left until I start classes again and I’ve been dealing with all the administrative stuff that no one really likes to deal with. These include financial aid, transferring credits (which I still haven’t finished because I have to wait for AP credits to get the college as well as two other classes to be evaluated) and seeing how these credits fulfill graduation requirements (which is never a joy), and figuring out how to schedule classes so that I can finish all those pesky requirements (how I wish I could’ve went to Amherst). It’s a bit of a pain but one that cannot be avoided. I have an advising appointment on Tuesday which will, Inshallah help me to sort out all my academic requirements. Also, I’m beginning to wonder if I should major in something else besides Religious Studies. I do like the study of Religion but I kinda wonder if the Religion courses at Case are what I’m really looking for. Also, I seem to have more courses that transferred over as History courses (like I really need them now). Well, I don’t intend on majoring in History so perhaps it is best to stick to Religion or maybe Philosophy.
Also, I’ve kinda decided that perhaps law school isn’t quite for me. I’ve been romanticizing about academia for quite some time now and I think I’ve fallen more in love with the idea of being a Islamic Studies Prof than being a slaving lawyer working 80 hrs a week. However, academia isn’t exactly the easiest field to get into and a law degree does always guarantee some employment as at least a paralegal. So, now I’m beginning to think about grad school but not too seriously yet since I still have some time to make that decision.
